Why should you do Olympic Weightlifting?

Many people ask why should I do Olympic Weightlifting instead of regular weight training? I'll list some of the main benefits below

Develop Flexibility
Teach a person to coordinate their body
They teach Discipline
Help older athletes recover from injury

Developing flexibility is very important in every day life too. If you were to fall in an awkward way and land on a limb and it goes pass the normal ROM (Range of Motion) that it is accustomed to, you can end up injuring it. Since Olympic Weightlifting requires flexibility to be developed it helps strength the ligaments, tendons, and muscles around the joints involved and provides further protection to the joint than another exercise that has shorter ROM.

The Olympic lifts teach a person to coordinate their body in the movements. You cannot start to shrug at the very bottom of the movement. You learn to coordinate the body to fire in a way that is the most efficient for lifting.

Discipline is taught through the lifts because you have to learn the lifts in the proper way and analyze each attempt you do to make sure you were properly executing the lift. It is easier if a certified coach is there watching you work out.

The lifts help athletes recover from old injuries because they help them develop the flexibility and strengthen the muscles needed to maintain joint health and to properly coordinate their bodies.

"In a study done by Stone, Wilson, Blessing and Rozenek, athletes performed an Olympic lift for eight straight weeks, and it was found that the athletes resting heart rates decreased by 8%, systolic blood pressure decreased by 4%, lean body weight increased by 4% and body fat dropped by 6%."

Clearily olympic weightlifting is beneficial to the human body.
